Objectification. Commodity. Consumption. Terms which apply to art that exists at The Guggenheim as well as imagery that lingers in any back-alley theater labeled “Adults Only”. If you cringe at the mere thought of anything associated with the word “pervert”, I suggest you avert your gaze and shield your ears now. This is an academic debate. Not only is Zak Smith’s intellect and tenacity incredibly attractive, but his total lack of enthusiasm during Betty Ann Brown’s intro sets me off. Bon appetit.
Props to you if you recognized his example of exploitation was to go off and get a job painting for Jeff Koons. I would totally do it. But we all know what I think about Jeff Koons, anyway.
